The March camping trip, which is also the NASA trip, is the weekend of March 19-21. We have confirmed reservations for six sites at Manattee Hammock county park in Titusville, about 30 minutes from Kennedy Space Center. Sign up sheets and permission slips have been posted. Cost is $10 for camping and $20/$40 for NASA for Scouts and Scouters, respectively.
A high adventure backpacking training will occur the weekend of February 26-28, 2010. There are 5 Scouts (including one Venturer) signed up for this trek. We will be going to the Upper Hilsborough Tract.
As of today we have 3 Scouts signed up for Base Camp, 2 for backpacking and 5 for Rock Climing (including one Venturer). We also have 1 Scouter for Base Camp, 1 Scouter for backpacking and 2 Scouters for Rock Climbing. Our next deposit is due at Camp Daniel Boone on March 15th. All attending need to provide the next $90 deposit at the March 1st meeting.
Philmont - IMPORTANT UPDATE
Philmont - July 16-28, 2011
Due to lack of committed interest, we took the registration down to one crew. We can only have a maximum of 12 attending, with a maximum of 8 Scouts and 4 Scouters. Thus far we have 6 committed Scouts and 4 Scouters. There is still room for two more Scouts if anyone is interested. The next deposit of $312.50 is due in September 2010.
RANK REQUIREMENT CHANGES
With the release of the new handbook comes several rank requirement changes that will be in effect as of January 1, 2010.
Tenderfoot– A Scout must teach another person how to tie a square knot using the EDGE model ( explain , demonstrate, guide & enable). He must also be able to discuss four specific examples of how he lived the points of the Scout Law in his daily life.
Second Class – A Scout must discuss the principles of Leave No Trace and explain the factors to consider when choosing a patrol site and where to pitch a tent. He must explain what respect is due the flag of the United States. He must again discuss four examples of how he lived four different points of the Scout Law in his daily life. He must earn an amount of money agreed upon by the Scout and his parents and save at least 50 percent of it.
First Class— An additional requirement to the 10 separate troop/patrol activities states he must demonstrate the principles of Leave No Trace on these outings. He must discuss four more examples of how he lived the remaining four points of the Scout Law in his daily life.
Life– A Scout must use the EDGE model to teach a younger Scout a specific skill.
Star, Life and Eagle– Troop Webmaster and Leave No Trace trainer are two new leadership positions.
These will apply to al Scouts having their Boards-of-Review after December 31, 2009.
The Troop will be using the 2010 insurance forms that are only valid for 12 months. Anyone (Scout or Adult Leader) who’s insurance forms are older than 12 months will be notified via email and asked to complete the new insurance forms. Blank insurance forms can be found in the scout house in the cubby hole labeled ‘Health Forms. If you are new to the troop, then please make sure you pick up an insurance form, fill it out and return it to Emalou Dublo.
Adventure Base 100

The BSA 100th Anniversary tour will travel the country to rally people of all ages to join the BSA in “Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey.” Through interactive experiences, demonstrations, activities, and more, visitors will have an exciting and inspiring view of the history and future of the Boy Scouts of America.
Adventure Base 100 will enable the Boy Scouts of America to directly connect with millions of families across the country and invite them to join us in celebrating the adventure, and continuing our journey. The18-wheeler will travel from coast to coast, telling the story of Scouting at each stop. After passing through the dramatic entrance with its rustic archway, visitors to Adventure Base 100 will be greeted by a sprawling campus of BSA-branded structures and activities:
Traveling Lodge. This double-wide tractor’ trailer provides more than 1,000 square feet of immersive, multi-sensory Scout-related experiences.
Go Dome. This multi-sensory, surround-sound, surround-vision immersion dome transports visitors to environments that epitomize the Scouting experience.
Thrill Wall. Visitors will scale new heights on the outdoor rock climbing wall.
Information/Recruitment Tent. This prominently placed opportunity will encourage non-Scouts to join Scouting and recruit adults to become BSA volunteers.
Sponsor Tent(s). Key 100th Anniversary sponsors will be able to promote their partnership with the BSA and showcase products or social responsibility efforts (within defined parameters).
BSA Store Tent. Visitors can purchase 100th Anniversary memorabilia and patches.
